At last - passengers can take shelter.

BUS passengers who have waited more than seven years for a bus shelter and lay-by at Hipperholme should get what they want before next winter.

Calderdale Council has stepped in to resolve the long running saga which dates back to August 1995 when development company Younger Homes (Northern) Ltd was given the go-ahead to build homes on a site previously occupied by Hipperholme Infants' School.

Plans were to close Barfield Road and create a diversion on to a new access road to Halifax Road and part of the agreement was that a bus lay-by and bus shelter be provided by the developer.

But the work was not carried out and an enforcement notice was issued …
