Edward Anderson worked as a custodian before he started getting headaches and eventually fell on the job.
His poor health prohibited him from keeping his job. After seeing a doctor, Anderson found out he had diabetes.
"I thought it was something you could get rid of," said the 65- year-old, who now is insulin- dependent. "No ice cream, no cookies, no cakes. I said: 'Doctor, you're hurting me.'"
Anderson, who lives on a $525- a-month Social Security check and a small monthly food stamp allowance, is one of hundreds of people to be helped by The Times Union Christmas Fund for the Elderly in Need.
